Villains Stitchalong: Eye of Sauron

FictionalVillainsStitchalong-&Stitches eyeofS2

Today I'm sharing my Villain Stitchalong project. When I saw that this month's theme was Villains, honestly the first thing that came to mind was Lord of the Rings. I've got a 12 year old in my house and he's all about LOTR and Harry Potter so I knew that this would be a great project to gift him with.

I love working with wool thread and pictured this as a great project to stitch in wool. I used d'Aubusson wool threads in yellow, red and black.

After stitching the black center part, I stitched yellow lines all around the pupil. Then I went around it with red stitches and finished up going around the outside with a yellow border.

I wrapped the hoop in yellow fabric and I'm stashing it away as a Christmas gift for my LOTR loving son.

“But Sauron was not of mortal flesh, and though he was robbed now of that shape in which had wrought so great an evil, so that he could never again appear fair to the eyes of Men, yet his spirit arose out of the deep and passed as a shadow and a black wind over the sea, and came back to Middle-earth and to Mordor that was his home. There he took up again his great Ring in Barad-dur, and dwelt there, dark and silent, until he wrought himself a new guise, an image of malice and hatred made visible; and the Eye of Sauron the Terrible few could endure.”
 ― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Silmarillion

It's not too late to stitch along with us and embroider your own villain! You can enter your piece here, and perhaps you'll win one of our lovely prizes! Share your progress on Twitter and Instagram by adding #VillainsSAL to your posts.

What are you stitching? Please share in the &Stitches Flickr group. We'd love to see it!
