Pattern Darned Scotty Dog

Scotty dog with darning fill

I recently spent some time learning about pattern darning, the method of creating repeating patterns with simple rows of running stitch. I was interested in the style because it seemed like it would be a perfect way to fill spaces that want a little extra texture - exactly as Flickr user JaniceG2010 has done with this little scotty dog. I love the effect the pattern darning has here - it behaves like a solid to the eye, but adds such interest to a simple shape!

What are you stitching? Please share in the &Stitches Flickr group. We'd love to see it!
