Pattern Darned Scotty Dog

Scotty dog with darning fill

I recently spent some time learning about pattern darning, the method of creating repeating patterns with simple rows of running stitch. I was interested in the style because it seemed like it would be a perfect way to fill spaces that want a little extra texture - exactly as Flickr user JaniceG2010 has done with this little scotty dog. I love the effect the pattern darning has here - it behaves like a solid to the eye, but adds such interest to a simple shape!

What are you stitching? Please share in the &Stitches Flickr group. We'd love to see it!

  1. Oh that is really pretty! I like the simplicity and cleanness of the pattern.

  2. This is so cool! I have never heard of the technique and now I'm off to learn more. I love the concept. Thanks for posting about it.

  3. How cute is he. I love scottie dogs and this is a great one.
