But will you look at this: I've become slightly besotted and obsessed with these repeating patterns. So much so that I've actually finished two 2" squares already and getting close to finishing the third one. There is something really pleasing about having different patterns in neighbouring squares. :-)
And it's not difficult at all, if a little time consuming, but not enough to put me off. If you can do back stitch, that's all you need to know. If you're a beginner like me, it's probably easiest to use some aida/cross stitch fabric just to get a feel for the stitching and keep things easier to count.
Starting in the centre of whatever shape you're filling, seems to be the general advice. And use one strand of six stranded floss to get the neatest result.

What are you stitching? Please share in the &Stitches Flickr group. We'd love to see it!
I've never yet done blackwork - in any colour, but it's on my list of 'techniques to explore'. I've done a glut of cross stitch and hardanger, as well as lots of non-counted things, but not blackwork. Must give it a go once I've finished with my current two projects - a Lizzie*Kate cross stitch and a peacock feather of my own design which has an appliqué 'centre' and couched fronds. So, that's what I'm stitching now...
ReplyDeleteWow, you're one busy stitcher, Elizabeth! :-)
