Inspiration: Embroidered K

&Stitches Inspiration

Embroidered K

I stumbled upon this beautiful K on Flickr a few days ago, and since embroidered text or lettering is probably my greatest stitchy love, I had to know more. Truth be told, I'm a bit of an amateur font geek in any format, but stitchy letters are the best of the best, if you ask me. When I saw Kyle Letendre's beautiful K, and then his description of it as his first embroidery work, I asked him to tell me a bit about the project and what inspired him to try it:

It's true: this is my first attempt at embroidery. I've had a love for textiles and small-scale sewing since I was a kid, and when I had some time on my hands this winter, I decided it was as good a time as any to finally try my hand at needlework. I work as a graphic designer and freelance letterer, so doing something with typography just felt natural to me. The goal is to make a set of these for each letter in the alphabet. There's an annual typography showcase in Chicago called TypeForce, and I'm hoping to get my letters done in time to show in the 2014 show.

This is clearly a project to keep an eye on - Kyle's K is hand-lettered and his initial plan is do each letter in a different style. Be still my stitchy-font-loving heart. Follow along and see how it progresses in Kyle's Flickr photostream or check out more of his typography work on his website.
