Moon Deer

Found on Flickr

Hello all! Thank you so much for such a lovely, warm welcome to the &Stitches blogging team the other day - I'm so honored to be here among such amazing stitchers!

To start off easy, I wanted to share this incredible piece found in the &Stitches Flickr Pool by Jules, who blogs at The Awkward Niche.

Moon deer

Jules calls this fellow a 'Moon Deer', based on her own sketch of a 'deer-like creature'. Neverminding the beautiful fill stitching, the gorgeously subtle color palette, those floaty french knots so perfectly placed -- I really love the idea of a little silvery creature that lives in secret on the moon.

I always love works of art that have just enough detail to let your imagination fill in the rest - I can totally picture this guy living on the moon, causing mischief, kicking up the moon dust. I'd love to know more about the adventures he gets into!

Julie is a knitter and stitcher, born in the US but now living in the UK. She loves vintage embroidery books and bad slasher movies. With her mum, Julie designs embroidery pattern inspired by literature under the name Little Dorrit & Co.
