Blackwork in blue

As part of the 'chartreusework' fun we're having this month, we asked one of our favourite stitchers of blackwork if she would stitch up a square like we've been doing. Happily, Sami (of Teasemade) agreed and I'm excited to show you what she made.

As you know, the rule is to not use the colour black when stitching a typical blackwork pattern. Here is Sami's pretty blue square:

Gorgeous, isn't it? :-)

Sami told us a little about the pattern she stitched: "it is an Elizabethan diaper pattern from an old book that I have that I have always liked and fancied stitching."

Thank you, Sami!

Have you stitched a chartreusework example? Do share it in the &Stitches Flickr group. We'd love to see it!

  1. Lovely :) I have an old book that collects together blackwork samples from Elizabethan embroidery. There is one piece I am thinking of doing in red, black and gold. Will absolutely share once done.
