One-Stitch: Cross Stitch Follow-Up

Uploaded on
Here's the result of my playing with cross stitch and double cross stitch. Still counts as one stitch, right...? ;-)

Ok, neither stitch look like they would if they were stitched on proper cross stitch fabric.. they're loose cross stitches. Or something. I stitched on vintage fabric like Julie, but instead of using the design on the fabric as my 'pattern', I decided to stitch in the space between.

I quite like how it turned out! I really wasn't sure what the end result was going to be like when I started. I really like how the stitches add texture to the fabric, but you can still the flowers.

I wanted to fill up any given space as much as I could, so some stitches are small, some are quite large. And sometimes they are seriously wonky, to fill a particularly awkward spot. But it all adds to  the overall effect, I hope.

Have you tried a one stitch challenge like this? Please share in the &Stitches Flickr group. We'd love to see it!

  1. I love what you have done. It is really very pretty. Sue x

  2. I really love the double cross stitch it looks so effective x

    1. Yes, it's really fun. And I especially love how the colours interact if you use two colours. :-)

  3. Wow, this turned out LOVELY!. What a creative approach to x stitch on printed fabric.

  4. That's pretty cool. I'm trying to play catch up on blog reading :-)
