Color Cascade

While browsing the Flickr pool to see what you all have gotten up to since the holidays, the exciting color and texture mix in this brooch made by Moligami caught my eye. As I read Moligami's photo description, I noticed the phrase "sagara embroidery", which I had never heard before, so of course I had to do a little research.

But I wasn't able to find much! From bits and pieces all around the internet, I was able to piece together that Japanese sagara embroidery is essentially french knots, used solidly to fill a space or accentuate a printed fabric, such as on a kimono. And Moligami has certainly used french knots to wonderful effect on her brooch! Check out more of her Japanese-inspired embroidery on Flickr.

  1. you made my day so joyful, thank you for appreciating my embroidery tryings.
Yeah, I`m inspired by japanese sagara but much simple is to use french knot name.
Japanese embroidery exsists in my dreams but it`s so demanding but it was enough to push me on embroidery way at all.
