Forest Creature

Found on Flickr

Forest creature.

This little Forest Creature by Flickr user Gemma Austen is a bit of a mystery. She (I'm sure she's a female Forest Creature with those lovely eyes and rosy cheeks) doesn't have a background story offered by her creator -- which I have to admit, I kind of love, because then my imagination can fill in the rest! I suspect that this nameless Forest Creature is a bit lonely without a friend, but doesn't really know better because she's always lived this way. She'll be so excited when she meets the one other Forest Creature living in the woods! But for now, she's happy enough to hop around the forest all day, nibbling on the dandelions. Obviously, right?!

I love this creature and the simple stitching Gemma has used to illustrate it. I am especially smitten with the teeny-tiny clouds stitched in there, only just bold enough to be noticed! See more of Gemma's sketches, paintings, and stitches at her blog, Gem at the Gallery!

Julie is a knitter and stitcher, born in the US but now living in the UK. She loves vintage embroidery books and bad slasher movies. With her mum, Julie designs embroidery patterns inspired by literature under the name Little Dorrit & Co.
